FIREMEN were unable to save the administration block of the Kilakila Secondary School in Moresby South which caught fire around 3am yesterday, says Boroko Fire Station commander Supt John Ap. He said they were still investigating the cause of the fire, but suspect that it could be an arson case. “The administration block was occupied by the school’s principal and his two deputies,” he added. “The fire started at around 3.16am (on Monday). “We responded when we received the call but we were not able to save anything. “This was because the building was constructed in the colonial days and the fire spread too fast.” He said a staff member told them that some people had tried to burn down the same building last month. “We were told that this was a second attempt. (It is why) we believe it is an arson case,” he said. “There were no eyewitnesses at the scene and it was difficult for us to collect more information.” He said the whole building was burnt down and nothing was saved especially the school files. Firefighters managed to stop it from spreading to the science laboratory next door. Meanwhile, police yesterday confirmed that they had arrested four suspects over the incident. “There was an attempt to burn the building two weeks ago but the school principal managed to put the fire out. But (yesterday), it was burnt down. We believe this is an arson case,” a police spokesman said. The National / PNG Education news Also read Comments are closed.
