Papua New Guinea's Education Secretary, Dr. Uke Kombra, has encouraged the 80,015 Grade 10 students from 489 high and secondary schools who will be sitting for their Written Expression Examination on Thursday to strive for their best performance and ensure the exams are conducted with integrity. "I wish all the Grade 10 students the best of luck in their first national examination for 2024 on Thursday," Dr. Kombra stated. "We have eliminated cheating in examinations. Hence, results are based on hard work and offer better education benchmarks." Dr. Kombra confirmed that all schools have received their examination papers, in accordance with the nomination data provided by the Measurement Services Division in Port Moresby. He also called upon citizens to support and adhere to the fair administration of the exam.
"I call on all the citizens to support and abide by the fair administration of the exam," Dr. Kombra said. He urged schools to ensure their registration documents are in order with the department's school registration committee, emphasizing that without proper registration, schools will not be allowed to sit the examinations. Dr. Kombra also warned schools to avoid any malpractice related to the national exams. "The department has a zero-tolerance policy on cheating or any malpractice, as evident in the de-registration of the Goroka Syntax Secondary School in Eastern Highlands after investigations found irregularities by the school in the 2025 national examinations," he said. He highlighted the serious consequences for students and schools involved in malpractice, including non-certification for students, termination of teachers, and a minimum three-year ban for schools. Dr. Kombra’s message reinforces the commitment to upholding the standards and integrity of the education system, ensuring a fair and equitable examination process for all students.
