PARENTS in Central have been relieved of the burden of paying their children’s school fees this year, a parent said. A father of six and teacher from Chimbu, Anton Waruo, thanked Central Governor Rufina Peter for helping parents with the burden of school fees. “I heard from the governor’s office about the application forms for school fee subsidies,” he said. “I enquired about the scheme, got an application form, filled out the paper work and the councillor at Lealea endorsed it. “My son Raphael attends Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI) and we really needed the school fees.” Waruo thanked the governor and encouraged all the students who were facing hardship to seek assistance from the governor’s office.
The relieved father said he followed up with his request and they readily approved his son’s school fee. “This assistance is a blessing,” he said. Waruo began teaching in 1996 after leaving Holy Trinity Teachers’ College in Mt Hagen. He began his career in Chimbu where he taught for 19 years. In 2016, he was assigned to Central’s Vanapa, along the Hiritano Highway, and then moved up to Sogeri. In 2018, he was appointed to Lealea Primary School in Hiri-Koiari.
