![]() FIFTY women trainee teachers, accommodated at a primary school library in Kokopo, East New Britain (ENB), Papua New Guinea were robbed on Monday night, but there were no reports of any injury. The trainees from Gaulim Teachers’ College in East New Britain were held up by criminals at Kalamanagunan Primary School in Kokopo. ENB police commander Chief Insp Januarius Vosivai said the incident occurred between 1am and 2am. Vosivai told The National that the trainees were doing their teaching practical at Kalamanagunan.
He said the robbers broke into the school library and attacked and threatened the trainees. They got away with mobile phones, 12 tablets and two laptops. Vosivai said one suspect was identified which would help police to make arrests but he still appealed to the community in Vunamami area to help them round up the suspects. “I am disappointed with the school management, they’re supposed to accommodate the trainees in a proper house and not in the school library,”Vosivai said. “How can you accommodate 50 people in one open room, these are female trainees and their welfare and security are important. “Kalamanagunan primary school, you have a history of burglars breaking in and attacking teachers and with those experiences, the school administration is supposed to make an arrangement with the college administration and accommodate these teacher trainee students in a proper accommodation so they will be safe and well looked after.” Vosivai said burglary was common in ENB.
