![]() ENGA will continue to advance in education as long as its political leadership maintains strong relations with important stakeholders like Education Department, diplomatic corps, overseas partners and the corporate sector, says an official. Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra made this remarks at the closing of a week-long senior education officers’ conference at Enga Teachers College campus at Irelya in Wabag on Friday. Kombra said Enga would continue to prosper both in education and other aspects of development because the province had a good political leadership under Governor Sir Peter Ipatas and supported by provincial administrator Sandis Tsaka. THE Morobe Gerson-Solulu scholarship scheme coordinator, Robert Ayang, has apologised to scholarship recipients and their parents for not paying what was promised earlier this year.
Ayang’s apology followed a gathering of disappointed tertiary students at the Tutumang Haus (provincial government) due to a delay in funding that resulted in some students being deregistered. “My apologies for not paying the fees as expected in the beginning of the year where 100 per cent fees were promised, and also the payments were delayed because the government funds were coming in late to the accounts,” he said. ![]() By Samuel Raitano, in Wabag, Enga Province : Kalang News Enga Province is hosting the thirty second (32nd) Senior Education Officers Conference (SOEC) in Wabag. This was revealed by Unitech Projects Director, Derrick Kundi at the Unitech Alumni corporate funding raising dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Port Moresby, last week Friday. He became president in 2022 ![]() Mr Isaac Opeti is a trainer in Electrotechnology at Bougainville Technical College in Tinputz. He is passionate about training up skilled electrical tradespeople. In 2008, he completed the equivalent of National Certificates 1 and 2 and worked in Port Moresby. Having lived through the Bougainville conflict, Mr Opeti made the decision to return to Bougainville and help his people. His passion made him join the Bougainville Technical College (BTC), where he teaches Electrotechnology. In semester 2, 2022, Mr Opeti took a step further in upgrading his skills by completing the Australian Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30811) course delivered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition. The new qualification is helping Mr Opeti build his professional capacity as a trainer in his field. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through its Lukautim Graun Program (LGP), has supported 30 people, including 24 women from Nubia village in the Bogia district of Madang Province, to access financial literacy training (FLT).
Local trainer, Tina Manamb, certified through USAID’s partnership with the Center for Excellence in Financial Inclusion (CEFI), recently conducted the training on the basics of financial literacy. The Gearson Solulu Scholarship funding to Niugini Plant and Heavy Equipment Training Institute (Npheti) in Lae would transform the lives of at least 240 students, an official says.
Morobe education minister Lemson Gilangsaoc last week toured the institute while students were doing their practical in operating a forklift, crane, excavator and lightweight vehicle following their theory short courses. Gilangsaoc spent time with the students and learnt that most were unfortunate and couldn’t complete their education – the youngest student being 17 year old and the oldest being 65 year old. He was also impressed to find 10 female students. ![]() A 17-YEAR-OLD girl’s passion for music has helped her secure space at the Fountainview Academy in Canada to be part of an orchestra to play violin. Charlene Sahoto’s interest in playing violin began in 2018 when she was in grade seven, when her mother helped her registered for a two-week music programme in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea . “I already knew how to play the guitar and keyboard, so when mom said that the music programme in Port Moresby was also teaching violin, I said, okay, add it to the list,” she said. “I attended the music programme twice, in 2018 and 2019. “That’s when we were living in Kokopo.” ![]() Provincial School Inservice Training Held at Nawaeb Lutheran Secondary School.
