THE Morobe Gerson-Solulu scholarship scheme coordinator, Robert Ayang, has apologised to scholarship recipients and their parents for not paying what was promised earlier this year. Ayang’s apology followed a gathering of disappointed tertiary students at the Tutumang Haus (provincial government) due to a delay in funding that resulted in some students being deregistered. “My apologies for not paying the fees as expected in the beginning of the year where 100 per cent fees were promised, and also the payments were delayed because the government funds were coming in late to the accounts,” he said. “To parents, we would appreciate if you could at least help pay our students’ fees and let them settle down, and once funds were available, we will pay, then you can get reimbursement.
“Government is government, funding would not be available on time. “Don’t let our students get pressured and let’s help each other sort them out and let them concentrate on their studies because we are in the mid-year now.” Meanwhile, Ayang had called on student leaders to work with him and his office to avoid the confusion of circulation of different name lists. “Student leaders are not working with me, they are working with the provincial administrator and education chairman,” he said. “This has caused another list to pop up which was not supposed to be done. “They are not the right people to seek assistance from, I am the one they should have approached for assistance because I am the person in charge of the scholarship office. “We should follow the policy and protocol which was sanctioned by the provincial executive council to go by the selection committees’ lists. “If your (students’) name is on my list, then you are fine. “If your name is not on my list, then you have taken the wrong approach, therefore, there is hiccup.” Ayang urged the student leaders to work with him to sort out the misunderstanding.
