A mother (Ruth Yara) from Southern Highlands Province in Ialibu-Pangia district broke down in tears while seeing her son graduating with the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at the UPNG's 65th graduation at Sir John Guies indoor complex in Port MORESBY. Ruth Yara is a wife to Pastor George Pipiki Yara, a pastor of an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church who has been serving in the Ministry for almost 27 years. In 2011, Pastor George was transferred from a Baptist church in Pangia to Faith Way Baptist Church at Gerehu in Port Moresby. However, living in the city was quite a challenge for the Pastor family especially with the Pastor earning K300 fortnight paid by church while five of his children are in school, food for the family & other basic needs of the family was very hard. ![]() By Albertis Photography My name is Livai Tyson Miriye from Imbonggu District in Southern Highlands Province. The University has 6 phases of projects which it only secured funding for the first phase which include construction of core infrastructures. These include, students’ mess, administration building, lecture hall, male and female dormitories and a sewerage system. ![]() The Admin Manager for Niiella Enterprise Limited, Rhoda Wong, presented a cheque of K5,000 to UPNG SHP Students Union Executives and UPNG SHP Medical Students Executives. The K5,000 contribution from Niiella Enterprise Limited is for the cause of purchasing the CT Scan Machine for Mendi General Hospital in Southern Highlands Province. Niiella Enterprise Limited is a National Company owned by Daniel Waswas (CEO) who is from the Southern Highlands Province. For many years the education outcomes in our province have been very poor. ESPG currently spends K120 million a year on Education. More than half our budget. Yet our children continue to perform poorly. So spending more money on education is simply not giving us the results we need. We had to come up with a smart, low cost alternative that enables us to track the progress of our children. ![]() Papua New Guinea HIGHER Education Minister Wesley Raminai says the newly-sworn council of the University of Goroka (UoG) has a big task to maintain a high standard of education. Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the new interim council members on Friday, Raminai said in order to forge a way forward, new acting vice-chancellor Dr Teng Waninga and the new interim council needed to safeguard the university and its principles. “This university must be grounded in honesty and transparency and be accountable to the students, staff and major stakeholders of the day,” Raminai said. ![]() NEW COUNCIL TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS ON MISMANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE AT UOG The new Council of the University of Goroka have been tasked to undertake the investigation into alleged mismanagement, and governance against the top UOG management team, and its former interim council. The directive was issued by the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and Sports, Wesley Raminai. Minister Raminai has further directed that a report on the investigation is completed, and submitted within six months. ![]() Speaking at the UPNG Ialibu-Pangia Students Orientation at Tuna Bay (Port Moresby), Member for Mendi Munhiu and Minister for Works and Implementation, Michael Nali, encouraged the students about the importance of Self-discipline. Minister Nali said, "The single most important attribute to become successful is self-discipline because it helps you to stay focused on reaching your goals, gives you gumption to stick with difficult tasks and allows you to overcome obstacles and discomfort as you push yourself to new heights. "Self-discipline enables you to stay in control of yourself and of your reaction to any situation, it is like a muscle, the more you train it, the stronger you become. ![]() The PNG Secretary for National Works and Implementation, David Wereh, was the Key note speaker for UPNG Ialibu-Pangia Students Orientation, hosted on Saturday (16th May) at Tuna Bay in Port Moresby. Speaking at the Orientation, Wereh stated that twenty years ago, we had launched the vision 2050 and that vision says, By 2030, Papua New Guinea must become the Middle Income Country and the per capita earnings of a person should reach something like 16 thousand US dollars per year, per person. "That is exactly the income for the Middle Income Countries and that is the target we set. Some 20 years ago, I am seeing that the vision is going to be very tough. Something's are happening but in a very small way, step by step. ![]() A PREGNANT secondary school teacher in Chimbu is recovering in hospital after surviving a vicious attack by a former boyfriend on Monday. Linda Perry, 25, who teaches business and computer studies at the Kerowagi Secondary School, is three-months pregnant. She is recovering at the Sir Joseph Nombri Memorial Hospital in Kundiawa after her ex-boyfriend attacked her in the school compound. Attempts to get comments from Chimbu police commander Supt Horim Piamia were unsuccessful. The man who fled to Jiwaka after the attack was brought back by his relatives on Wednesday and handed over to Kundiawa police who have remanded him. |
