By Albertis Photography My name is Livai Tyson Miriye from Imbonggu District in Southern Highlands Province. And my little village is Kongebul, coming from a tribe call Makai. I would like to share my story in a form of encouraging and inspiring someone out there, who are in such situation like I once was. I pray that my testimony will help you to never give up on your dreams because people with dreams have a future. I was raised in a family of low income, illiterate and no mentor in education. My mother was my strength in my education. She looked after pigs to pay for my school fees starting from Gr7. Every year we used to sell pigs to pay for my fees from Gr7 to Gr12. When I was doing my Gr11, my mother was very sick and was admitted to our local health center for 2 weeks. She was disoriented and confused. I taught she would die but thank God that she survived that ordeal illness. However, that illness has affected her up till now as she continues to feel the complications in her body. Even though the HEO has explained the illness of my mother, I didn't understand. I was so curious to understand the illness my mother had suffered from and that prompted me to study medicine. I finished Gr12 in 2012 in Ialibu Secondary School (SHP) as a Dux student in Science, however, I didn't get an offer. The education system has rejected me so with unbearable pain and tears, I ended up in Lae (Morobe Province) in 2013. In Lae, the life was very tough, so I worked as a bus crew to survive. Later I worked with Seeto Kui as a security guard in all of 2013. I often wondered around the streets of Lae, thinking that I had no hope in education but I always wish of going back to school. I always had a big dream of being educated one Day. I never gave up, and always looking for ways to get myself enrolled in one of the universities. At one time, I was informed to apply to UPNG as Non-school leaver. I did apply and I was accepted in 2014 to study Science Foundation in UPNG's Open Campus. I was so amazed and for 2 years I did Science Foundation (Open Campus). After the final exam of my foundation year in 2015, I saw a news paper article of Divine Word University offering the new Medical School program and application was opened only for students with first degree. Without hesitation, I applied for the program and fortunately, I was accepted to study Bachelor in Medicine & Bachelor in Surgery (BMBS). My courage of never giving up has helped me to secure a space in the Field I once wished for. However, the school fee for the medical program that I was going to take was very expensive. Being raised and hailed from a poor family was very difficult to afford the fees for the medical school.
But God is Good, all the time in my life. For every steps that I took, He has always being there for me. My parents never gave up, they looked after pigs and sell them every year for the last five years to pay for my school fees. My tribesmen were very supportive, they supported me in cash and kina for the last five years. And this year (2021), I successfully completed my Degree in Medicine and Surgery at Divine Word University. In every struggles that I went through, I kept holding on to my dream. Even though I came from a poor family, poor background, no public servants in the family, no business people in the family, nothing, but I still had a big dream. I taught to myself if they is no one to support me, if there is no hope for me, I'll rather die with my dream than giving up. Despite the hardships that I've been through, God has always provided for me, even to the very point of losing hope, God still provides. Some of the University students out there, if you do not experience the life that am taking about, you will not know what am taking about, you may not feel it, you may take it for granted but for some, who haveve been through both thick and thin times, may understand this life. After every struggles, I am so proud of my achievement, of what I become. I begin to appreciate life even more and those hardships that I have been through have taught me so many lessons. Though I may be working for a little income or not, I still appreciate life because my dream has come to reality. To conclude, I am now working as a Resident Medical Officer in Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae, Morobe Province. #Article_By_Albertis_Photography #Bibliography_of_Livai_Tyson_Miriye Next : Western Pacific University In PNG Needs Funding To Complete It's Projects Comments are closed.
