CHARLES Lwanga Secondary School in Port Moresby hopes to maintain its position in the top 10 schools in the country academically. Deputy principal, academic, Francesca Muki told The National that it was a challenge to their grade 10 students as they sat for their written expression examination yesterday. Charles Lwanga grades 10 and 12 were among the best-performing students last year. “That’s the challenge and because of that expectation on them to keep it that way, we are hoping that they would maintain it, and because of the commitment of those teachers and students we feel that the same result is going to be maintained for both grades 10 and 12,” Muki said.
THE PNG Teachers Association (PNGTA) has raised concern over the deregistration of teachers in the country saying it will affect students education. PNGTA general-secretary David Numbaming told The National that the country needed more teachers. He said the system should have vetted students properly before admitting them to teachers colleges and now that they had come through, it was too late to penalise them.

Ialibu lacked any real commercial, industrial or agricultural development along with an infrastructure other than that provided by the various Christian Missions and essential education and health services – it was one of the most remote and under developed and I might add one of the coldest districts in PNG. At the time, even to me, it seemed an impossible dream to consider it as a site for a university and I might add, a logistical nightmare. One positive attribute was that Pangia and Ialibu was a peaceful district located at the foot of the Majestic peaks of Mt Giluwe and Mt Ialibu served largely by small aircraft. ![]() The students at the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment in East New Britain Province have locked out the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor from their respective offices.
