PNG Education Talk by Pisep Jonah Jack Pindah The well known and prestigious University in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific, the University of Papua New Guinea, planning its 65th graduation in ABSENTIA does not give any value to the hardworking students, parents, guardians, sponsors and other stakeholders and therefore, its a meaningless graduation ceremony. Graduation is a celebrating event that gives a true meaning of someone's educational success in life. Someone has been working harder, spending more valuable resources, having some sleepless nights for two to four years and it is to be concluded with a life time event known as Graduation. The cancellation of that "Glorious Day" due to the so called C19 global pandemic does not honor the hard-work students and parents put together to recieve their respective Diplomas, Degrees, Masters and Phd's. "I have to be satisified if I get my Bamboo Degree in front of my hardworking Lecturers, tutors, staff, and most importantly the guest of honor in the presence of my hardworking parents". "This will give me a feeling of confidence and complete satisfaction that I am ending with UPNG and another chapter awaits me". A true happiness of myself, my parents and my friends are being denied by the C19 and its now beyond the university's control.
Despite the C19 laws in place, we still have other altenatives that may guarante the university to hold its 65th graduation ceremony in person. Following are my suggestions: 1. Invite two heads per graduant to witness the graduation; 2. Telecast the ceremony live on either EM TV or TV so that others can watch; 3. Strictly apply C19 policies; 4. Permit police to present to control the crowd 5. VC to seek approval from NEC to conduct the graduation. As a graduating students, I raised my concern not only for me but also for 2020 graduants of all faculties. Your constructive criticisms are welcome.
