By Solomon Aplas The hardwork of working as Security Guard for 12 hours in the night and attending the classes for eight hours a day as a full time student has paid off for Elijah. "I completed my grade 12 in 2013 at Yangoru Secondary in East Sepik Province, I didn't get an offer from any tertiary institutions and flew over to Port Moresby in search of education and stayed with my relatives. I fortunately found a school which is institute of business studies and enrolled as a self-sponsor student to study certificate in business Accounting." "However, on early January 2015 it was God's plan which I met a pastor who lived with the boys in Dove Santuary Church -AOG at Waigani. I stayed with them and engaged in music ministry which I began my studies in February at Port Moresby Business College, in which I have applied for in 2014 for two years Diploma in Business Studies program. It didn't get well in the first year because I have committed all my time in Church ministries and not doing well in some of the courses. Despite of it, I never take it as a burden that would suppress me to strive. I kept believing in myself and finally graduated with Diploma in Office Administration in November 2018."
This is the story of Elijah Swaiya, Elijah is from Alisu village in West Yangoru in East Sepik Province. "In January 2019, I engaged into a job with G4S and choose to start my life as a security officer. I never had a higher feelings to have a better qualification than other Security Officer. What really matters to me is the type of positive mindset I have to be simple. I know a lot of people are better than me but living a simple life, why should I worry for job that suits my qualification. I grasps these thoughts which motivated me and proceeds with the job. Which I met many Universities and college graduates whom we are working together that made me not to be intimated with the job I have." "While working during the provision periods with G4S, I have applied for several vacancies and went through several interviews with reputable organization but were unsuccessful. While working, I met my nephew who we both work together. We agree to rent a room at Gerehu Stage one. We live a happy life sharing costs and expenses together. In our surprise on July 10th 2019 ,my nephew falls in a serious illnes and was tested positive TB by a doctor. That was a devastated moment in our life where every burdened being mounted up onto my shoulders . When friends and families, student's from Universities and colleges heard that, they came home spending 2-3 days living with me and my nephew at the rental house that gave me more pressure." "It occurred when I first enrolled in the college to do the second Diploma in Business Management. I haven't take it as a big challenge. I managed to live on with a positive attitudes and strength that comes from God to tackle the challenges." "In that job I earn K300 for fortnights and do break-ups for expenditures which K150 for rental fee, K100 for food staff and K18 for power and K12 for other necessities in the house while left with K20 for my busfare within two weeks for schooling. Even earning K300 and do break-ups for expenditures, I still don't have enough to take me through the next fortnight . But I see the God's hand that helps me to work extra hours to meet other necessities and sixty percent of my school fees while forty percent comes from my families." "In the midst of every pain a saying reminds me, "Never give up for not recognize but strive to be worthy of recognition (ABRAHAM LINCOLN)". I kept challenging myself with determination and peserverance. This motivates and uplifting my spirit which place a bold decision in my life never to be afraid of encountering challenges it makes me strong." "Moreover, one of the very thing that transformed my life is discipline I learnt from my work. That makes me to be a very committed and punctual to my work and study. I can do it whole heartedly to see progress and changes my life . Most important thing, I came to understand and know, is to value my job and study." "Which I acknowledge the Creator of finding my way out to test my passion level in both work and study. However, many graduates could hardly make a bold decision to build their lives from scratches and in fact having in mind that Security ( Security em pipia wok) job has no value . It requires a person with a lion heart to make the bold decision to live that live and accomplish their dreams." "Furthermore, the continuous support I got come from my awesome landlord whom I use to called Mum and Dad ( Mr and Mrs Siminji) in the absence of my biological parents . Very God's fearing parents who stood besides me and gave me support to pursue my education . While having shortage of money for rents, they understood my situation and told me not to be worried about." "In 2020, regardless of the obstacles I faced while working, I manage to complete my final year successfully and graduated with a second Diploma in Business Management on the 3rd of December 2020." "Therefore, I appreciate and acknowledge my God for being with me through my life . I want to encourage students and other young people who are in the similar or other situation to continue persuit your education. You have to start somewhere , where it leads up to your dreams. Don't listen to what is going around you.You are born to make it happen your own dreams . No one would make it happen for you it's yourself . So continue to believe in God and yourself that I can do it.(Phil 4:13)."
