by Glen Burua - Solomon Aplas Motivation What does pain means to you? For me, I faced the real definition of pain when I missed out on the grade twelve selection. I did my grade twelve in 2015. The day I checked the last listings on the newspaper without my name, I was broken. It is one thing missing out on selection. Its another painful experience getting criticisms from friends and close relatives. When you are still in school, people see you differently, but when you drop out of the system, almost everyone looks down on you. I had no choice but stay at home for three years. I was hopeless, devastated and found no meaning in life. During my duration at home, I started following bad friends and got influenced. I can't even think about it today, I was so bad. I tasted harmful substances and my life was a turmoil. Maybe there are others who are currently at home because of the same situation. You are not alone. I have been there and understand the pain.
Why am I still breathing despite my failure? This was the rhetorical question I kept asking myself. Then I realized that though I was hopeless, God kept me going. Though friends and family looked down on me, God still believed in me enough to wake me every single day for those tormenting three years. Though the world gave up on me, God loved me as His own. This gave me reason to try one more time. This is the story of Peter Tubal. After three years, Peter reapplied and was accepted at the University of Natural Resources and Environment in East New Britain province of Papua New Guinea, to study Bachelor in International Tourism. On the same year by God's grace, he won a scholarship to study Business Management and Chinese Literature at Fujian Business University, China where he is now. "What is your advice to other young people who might be facing the same situation?" I asked him. "Failure is not permanent, it is just temporary as long as we learn from it. Drugs and alcohol, will just drive you away from your dreams. On the same token, dreams don't have expiry dates, so always try again. The world may look down on you but not HIM who created you for a greater purpose. God always have the final say," he said.
