From a failure to Australia to Security Guard to Engineer: My Name is Ron and this is My Story3/5/2022 I am Ron Makip from the SHP. I have a story to tell, a struggled of my education life . But it is very long story. I applied in Unitech, Mining Engineering and wasn't accepted got D in Physics. Just like any other kids I got shattered and devastated. My own family rejected me even those around see me as a failure and wasn't good enough. As a faithful Christian, youth leader and member of Kundiawa Grace Baptist Church, I asked God why me? I question God and its coexistence. I am your child and why failed me.But little thought that came ,son I know the future I have for you ,i know why failed you . That thought also strengthened me on a Sunday sermon about Jeremiah in the old testament. I know the plan I have for you before you were conceived. Rev. Umba Mawi (Pastor). I made up my mind and decided to teach at Kundiawa Christian Academy and at the same time I upgraded my two other subjects. Fortunately I read a newspaper advertisement on TVET program to study in Australia, the instructions were written ," Cut the page ,fill out the information, write your letter of interest and send all your documents to Higher Education at the time, now DHERST, I followed through and applied for the TVET scholarship. Luckily I was accepted.
It was good news for me but that wasn't my dreams ,I had different dreams . After I returned from Australia, I thought of furthering my study so I never applied for job but I joined G4S and worked as a security guard . Many people again criticized me ,saying "boy ya go lo Australia na kam wok security gain." They never knew what was inside of me. I worked with G4S for a year. I was then worked with Curtain Brothers as a Welder at Motukiea International wharf. I always wanted to go study again so I started to saved little I earned from security officer and from the welding work. Even if some families or wantoks gave money ,I used to deposite into my bank account. Whilst doing those hot jobs I applied several times to UPNG and Unitech but unsuccessful. Fortunately, I met a total stranger at Garden city, who helped me to apply for an engineering course in China through Education Pacific Agency. Luckily, I was accepted to do Bachelor Degree in Petroleum Engineering. I worked hard and earned scholarship from the university two times . Many of courses I took, I got all As. Due to the COVID-19, I did my final thesis online. With the assistance from department of Petroleum and Energy at the Konedobu, I completed my final thesis just last year 2021. Whilst doing my thesis, I applied to Papua New Guinea Education Institute for Post Graduate in Education. Thank God I was accepted . Last year I completed my PGD. I am waiting for my graduation in April 2022. I want to tell those students who are not accepted through formal education that failure is just one part of your journey. If you don't fail you will never learn anything. Fail is good. You can fail big but after fail, no one will catch you, ONLY if you are resilient enough to fight the criticism. Have never give up attitudes and you will concur your dreams and prove the critics wrong .This world is for those who work hard.
