By John Seke Met him just outside the common lavatory at the University of Papua New. At first sight I presumed that he is a student, given his appearance(the kind of guys nowadays, girls would love to hang out with) And in fact he is too young to work as a cleaner in a university were folks his age study. I was interested to learn from him so got him entangled in a flickering smile the moment I saw him , and he was like do I know this guy or should I just smile back? And when he smiled I knew there was a possibility of unlocking his thoughts. And it was so! we ended up in a pier opposite the forum square and he is pouring out his life! His name is Abraham (not the common Patriarch). Born of Koip and his marvelous Mama Nun who live in a beautiful Wahgi Valley (Jiwaka). He could not suck on the scorched milk of his withering parents anymore so he had to leave. Probably that was a call to be a man and find ways to uphold himself and keep moving.
He flew to port moresby in 2016 knowing that survival is only possible when you have the strength. He lived in the settlements fought in the streets through determination and sheer hard work( dirty, work I could say) he paid his own school fees. With little help from his relatives he was able to get a certificate along with 30 000 grade 12 in 2018. His first choice at the University of Papua New Guinea under business foundation was turned down. He said he deserved it coz he had been through a lot and that affected his studies. But it's such a great feeling anyway" I am here". I felt a sudden surge in my heart by the way he looked at me and said "at least I am here". If it was me I'd rather find a cleaning job elsewhere on earth and not here. Anyway his reasons are pretty captivating. He works under the University Cleaning Services and gets his minimum wage. When asked how does it feel when you purify the messy impurities of those educated, his simple answer was " I love this Job". Abraham Koip his not a talky kind of person. Out of our 4 hours conversation it was I who did most of the talk but his undivided attention and involvement just paid off. He still wants to finish his education and fulfil his dreams📈 when his purse is sufficient. For now all he ever wants is GETTING IT CLEANED UP.
