![]() The Papua New Guinea EDUCATION Department guidance and counselling first assistant secretary Philip So’on has urged Grade 12 students to take their studies seriously and excel. “You must be serious about your lives and think of where you want to journey to,” he said. “Young people are the ones who will make a difference in our country. “You are the ones to replace us. “You are the future leaders of the nation. “But you cannot replace us with boom box and homebrew. “You are students and must say no to cigarette and alcohol, so you can live longer and pursue your dreams.”
So’on reminded students that he grew up with his parents in colonial times. Unlike today’s youth, he valued education and was serious about his studies. “And that was what that made me to be who I am today,” So’on said. So’on said this last Friday during the closing of a week-long career expo in National Capital District with the theme “Information is Power”. About 30 exhibitors participated in the event as well as around 4,500-plus Grade 12 students from 26 secondary and national high schools. He told the students that the information provided by the exhibitors was important and could guide them to make better decisions when filling in their online school leaver forms.
