![]() GRADE 12 students in the National Capital District had to walk to their schools to collect the Written Expression Examination resource booklets in preparation for the national examination. Kilakila Secondary School head boy Damien Engime told The National that most of the students had to walk because there were no buses. “Most of us arrived late yesterday to pick up the exam booklets because we walked all the way,” he said. Deputy principal academic Hilares Aquino said of the 213 Grade 12 students, less than 200, collected their booklets yesterday. NCD Governor Powes Parkop said the schools should have asked for transport to be provided. “NCD Education should have liaised with us and we would have been too happy to allow the schools buses to transport the students,” he said.
Parkop apologised to parents and students for the inconvenience caused. “Cabinet has approved the transfer of education to NCD this year but the formal transfer has not taken place yet. So we do not have direct control of schools at this time,” he said. NCD Education Services secretary Sam Lora said he would send a notice to schools to provide transport for students. Parkop said school buses, masks and sanitisers would be provided. “Schools must know that the National Capital District is ready to help them,” he said. “We will provide school buses, masks and hand sanitizers to the students and staff.” Source: The National/PNGEducationNews Next : Schools To Resume Classes On Monday 17th, August, 2020 Comments are closed.
