THE PNG Teachers Association (PNGTA) will not be represented on the National Education Board until their in-house issues are sorted out, according to the Teaching Service Commission (TSC). Chairman Samson Wangihomie said yesterday that the commission acknowledged the elections that were conducted by the industrial registrar and the PNG Electoral Commission. He said the election of Aita Sanangapa as PNGTA president, including administrative staff David Numbaming as general-secretary was before the courts. “However, the issue that TSC, including the National Education Board, has is the infighting between the current PNGTA national management committee and the old national management committee,” he said. “The election of the current national management committee headed by Aita Sanangape is now being questioned and is now being contested in court. “The questions that are arising are on how the elections were conducted.”
Wangihomie said the Highlands block of the union did not vote. He questioned how the new management was elected if a significant portion of the union’s membership did not vote. “Many other members of the union are saying that they did not vote so how did they (management committee) get elected?” he said. “That is now before the court. “That is why to be fair with the old regime and the new regime, we’ve decided not to entertain them (both) until they get their in-house matter sorted out.” Wangihomie said the innocent victims at the moment were the contributors to the union. “They do not know what is happening,” he said. “Until and when the court clears all this and says ‘yes Aita Sangape and your team, you are legitimate’, we (TSC) will then say ‘come and let’s talk about the biggest common denominator that affects the teachers’. “So that is why we are making a stand and the chairman of the National Education Board has told them that PNGTA will not be represented on the board until and when you sort out your in-house matters. “And TSC views that as the correct way to go.” The National / PNG Education News Next : Nurses Told To Include God In Administering Healthcare Comments are closed.
