HEALTH workers in PNG should reflect their colours and include God in their career while attending to patients, a church representative says. Church of the Nazarene national board chairman Rev Yambe Sike said this to 29 graduating students of the Kudjip Nazarene College of Nursing in Jiwaka after they received diplomas in nursing on Saturday. Rev Sike said health workers played a vital role in people’s lives by administering healthcare. He said treating and helping patients heal reflected a love for their fellow man and of God. Rev Sike said the college ran a curriculum combining healthcare and pastoral training. He said once students graduated with diplomas in nursing, they went out into the field as health workers and pastors.
“In every step you take and what you do, God must become the centre of your life and before treating a patient you have to minister God’s word,” he said. “In Kudjip, we teach you a different way, this is very unique and you have to do your part to win people’s trust and confidence.” Rev Sike said the 47th diploma in nursing and certificate in laity ministry had increased the number of health workers produced by Kudjip College of Nursing to more than 1,000. Rev Sike encouraged the students to practise love, care and apply Christian principles in their work. “Sick people will look upon you and you have to be at your work stations at all times because this is where they will gain confidence and trust in you.” He said health workers needed to practise love and care and always have faith in God to deal with a wide range of health issues. Nursing Council chairman Peter Pindan shared the same sentiment on health workers.
