![]() Papua New Guinea students who studied through the Australian Government funded Australian Awards scholarships are now utilizing the new knowledge and skills they obtained through the scholarship program. The High commissioner Jon Philp to PNG , met with Australia Awards Alumni Madang Chapter and heard about how they are using their new skills and knowledge to contribute to their various field of work in the community. President of the Madang Chapter Theodore Armstrong Baworo runs a Touring Guide Business to help to promote tourism in the province. Theoodore holds a Certificate in Education from the Melbourne University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Divine Word University. He joined the meeting with Mr Philp and shared his ideas and experiences on ways of sustaining his business during the pandemic. Theodore is also working closely with the Provincial Health Authority to link his eco-tourism initiative with the Healthy Island Concept for safer model villages.
“I am proud to have once lived and studied in Australia and very thankful and privileged to have shared my knowledge to develop rural Madang and PNG.” High Commissioner encouraged him and the rest of the Alumni to build on their existing network and to also connect with the broader Australia Global Alumni. Australia has provided more than 12,000 Australia Awards scholarships to Papua New Guineans in the early 1950s.
