PNG PRIME Minister James Marape and his family plan to start a school feeding programme to children attending a school in East Sepik because of malnutrition and stunted growth cases. He visited the Wosera-Gawi in East Sepik on Friday and said national statistics showed that 38 per cent of the people in PNG had stunted growth not because of food shortage, but the lack of a balanced diet. Marape said seeing malnutrition in Gawi touched him. He said his family would be starting a school-feeding programme for children attending the Kandige Primary School.
“There is food in Kandige and in the Sepik River but there is no variety of food. Balanced diet is lacking,” he said. “My wife (Rachael) and I will go back to Port Moresby and send our son back to start the programme at the school.” Marape plans a similar programme for Tari-Pori schools.
