![]() The Save the Children team were thrilled to host the Minister for Education Hon. Joseph Yopyyopy at their Port Moresby office on Tuesday last week. Save the Children’s Pacific Regional Director Gerry Dyer expressed that it was a real honour for the team to host Minister Yopyyopy who is a champion for Early Childhood Development. “We’re privileged to work with the Minister and his team to ensure that schools are a safe space for kids to receive quality education. As the Minister said, “early and basic education is the foundation to life”. Save the Children currently runs three education projects in the country - the Rapidly Improving Standards in Elementary (RISE), Boosting Education Standards Together (BEST) PNG
and the Western eLearning Project (WEP). These projects are delivered in partnership with the National Department of Education, Provincial Education authorities, Church Education agencies, Civil Society Organisations, Faith Based Organisations, and supported by our institutional and corporate funding partners. The programs focus on teacher professional development in literacy, numeracy, science, gender inclusion, and inclusive education to support teachers to demonstrate improved practice. The program provides quality teaching and learning resources, such as textbooks, reading books and online learning tools. There is also support for parents and caregivers to encourage children to learn and prioritize education. In addition, the programs deliver professional development to provincial education stakeholders, such as Head Teachers, Inspectors, Provincial Department of Education and Church Education. About Save the Children Save the Children has been in PNG since 1974. Our 2030 ambition is for all children in PNG to survive, learn and are protected.
