![]() THE PNG Cancer Foundation (PNGCF), through its healthy teen school programme (HTSP), has successfully reached more than 2,000 participants in Lae, Morobe. In a statement, the outreach programme was conducted with the support of Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (PNGSMEC) and was carried out by the PNG Cancer Foundation and the National Cancer Treatment Center (NCTC) staff. The outreach programme was conducted on cancer awareness and education sessions with students and staff of participating schools in Lae. The team visited Lae International School, the PNG University of Technology (Unitech), Lae Salvation Army Primary School, Busu Secondary School and Bubia Lutheran Primary School.
“On the first day, HTSP had conducted an awareness session to almost 102 students from grades five to eight at the Lae International School,” PNGCF said in a statement. “At Unitech, about 35 students and staff attended the session. “At the Salvation Army Primary School, there were about 1,000 students and staff, and about 1,300 students from Busu Secondary School and Bubia Lutheran Primary School who attended the event.” The outreach programme was conducted within two days with PNGCF successfully reached more than 2,100 participants from the participating primary and secondary schools including, the tertiary students and staff. According to the statement, about 3,000 awareness materials were distributed during the programme to extend the PNGCF coverage in Lae and Morobe. PNGCF thanked the participating schools for their support in “closing” the cancer gap through education and building a bolder cancer prevention campaign. “We would like to thank all the recipient schools for making this outreach programme possible and we are also grateful for the support of the NCTC staff, PNG Air, Moore Printing, Nasfund and Colgate-Palmolive.” The National / PNG Education News Comments are closed.
