DAULO MP Ekime Gorosahu has recently presented a new Coaster bus to Asaroka Lutheran Secondary School in Daulo, Eastern Highlands. “The bus is to transport teachers living out of the school, especially in Goroka town and travelling to and from school daily due to shortages of teachers’ houses,” he said. “This arrangement would be temporary until the new teachers houses would be constructed from a K6 million I am getting for the houses.” Gorosahu said human resources development and road maintenance and constructions were his top priority for Daulo. He had paid school fee subsidies for all Daulo students attending universities and colleges before the academic year started to fulfil his promises. He said similar support would be given to other schools in the district.
“Asaroka Secondary School, being the largest and oldest educational institution in Daulo, is the first to get it ahead of others,” he said. Gorosahu said mobility for staff movement was essential in schools. The MP, a local from Asaroka, was the longest serving member of the Asaroka Lutheran Secondary School governing council and was chairman until he resigned to contest the elections which he than won became the MP. Gorosahu said that the school got secondary status in 2010 and he played a pivotal role in it as well as in the construction of its infrastructure including a science laboratory, staff houses, classrooms and student dormitories during his nineteen years with the board. “You cannot tell me the problems of the school, I was in the governing council and was requesting successive Daulo MPs for a bus but our requests fell on deaf ears,” he said. “Today, I am the MP and I will address the school’s needs without you telling me because I was in it and know the problems.” Meanwhile, Gorosahu said a K5 million was allocated to seal Ifiufa to Asaroka Secondary School road. He added that a K1 million from the provincial government for school fees would also be parked in a trust account he created for the fees to cater for all its students.
