MORE than 100 students from the six districts in Madang will return home and put to practice what they have learnt in the Philippines. The 106 students consisting 15 female and 91 male students underwent a six-months training at Hinch Technology School of Business in Batangas, Manila, studying various trade courses under a scholarship programme funded by the Madang government. Governor Peter Yama told media outside Parliament yesterday that the programme, which cost K5 million, started last year and aimed to offer Madang students and youth opportunities to study and learn skills overseas. He thanked the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Covid-19 team and Air Niugini for their participation in getting the students back into the country.
Yama said developing human resource was crucial for a country to prosper. “We must always make sure that our people go back to the land,” he said. “We are blessed, we have everything in this country that some other countries lack but the only problem we face is human resource or manpower,” the governor said.
