A LACK of resources and funds is hindering the growth of National Higher and Technical Education, its board chairman Dr Philip Kereme says. “We hope to resolve funding issues and fund education institutions adequately,” he added. “We will look at the resources that we have within the system and see how best we can mobilise the resources to fund education, research, science and technology. “There are many areas that need proper addressing but for now, we will focus on resource mobilisation,” he said. Kereme said a five-year development plan would be launched to address issues in the education system and the provision of quality education and growth in tertiary institutions. Higher Education, Research, Science, Technology and Sports Minister Don Polye said quality education at all levels was vital to enhance Papua New Guinea’s human resources and economic development.
“Technical and vocational training institutions are integral parts of the higher education sector that teaches skills development in science, technology, innovation and the use of technologies,” he added. Polye was speaking at a swearing ceremony of board members in Port Moresby yesterday. The National/PNGEducationnews Next : Comments are closed.
