![]() GABRIELLA Yambu, 22, from East Sepik and Morobe has dedicated her office administration dux award to her mother and elder sister. Yambu, who graduated from the Caritas College in Port Moresby on Friday, said her father left them 13 years ago and her mother had played both parenting roles to ensure all her siblings could have a better future. “I dedicate my dux award to my mother and my elder sister because without their support and contribution, I will not come to this milestone achievement in my life,” she said. Yambu completed Grade 12 at Caritas High School in 2019 and was not accepted in any college to further her studies. She said she stayed home in 2020 and in 2021, she received a message from the Caritas Business College principal Joselle Valmonte to study in 2021 academic years.
“I was in science class in my year 11 and 12, but I continue my studies in business courses at the tertiary level and I now receive my diploma certificates in office administration,” she said. Yambu acknowledged her mother for being the best in the world for the word of encouragement and endless supports. “My encouragement to other students is never lower your self-esteem, but instead pray hard by prioritising your goals right that will keep you going,” she said. Valmonte said the graduating class comprised of 23 women and two men who received their diplomas in the fields of office administration and tourism and hospitality. “We will add more courses from time to time and will increase the number of enrollment for both male and the female starting next year,” she said Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology acting secretary Francis Hualupmomi said that Caritas was a registered college in the country. Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council secretary Ivan Pomaleu, who attended the graduation on behalf of Prime Minister James Marape, said every child had a right to education. “The Government is placing its emphasis on education so no one child is left behind in the formal education sector including Flexible Open and Distance Education.” Pomaleu said the Government fully supported the training institution to impart skills and knowledge to students.
