![]() MADANG’s Divine Word University is taking on new approaches to deliver its programmes and services amid the Covid-19 pandemic using information and communications technology, according to the university. According to a statement from the university, a faculty of arts and social sciences research symposium was broadcasted live on Facebook, which was a first for the university students. Nine final-year students presented their research findings. The presentations were grouped into three segments of three presenters, followed by a panel discussion, question-and-answer session with a small pre-selected audience.
Each segment was chaired by a member of the faculty. Deputy president Prof Fr Philip Gibbs, who insisted on faculties to find alternative ways to stage their annual symposiums during the Covid-19 restrictions, recommended the live streaming and urged them to follow suit. He told other faculties of the university to reorganise their symposium presentations instead of postponing them. Fr Philip said they could follow suit to broadcast their research presentations online in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Fr Philip Gibbs said the annual missioning ceremony for the final-year students would be an in-house event brought to the public via live streaming. He said parents and relatives would not be invited due to the Covid-19 restrictions but they could see the programme streamed on Facebook.
