![]() THE Bahasa Indonesia language course introduced into the University of Goroka’s language and literature department last year has seen great interest from students, says an instructor. Papua New Guinean Bahasa-speaking instructor Willie Susuki says currently, the Bahasa course has attracted more than 60 students. “This is the highest number of intakes for any modern language course offered in the department.” Susuki said Bahasa was a registered foreign language taught at the university under the world language strand and offered as an accredited course to students.
He said the course began in the second semester of 2019, following a memorandum of understanding between UOG and the Indonesian Embassy in Papua New Guinea. “Learning Bahasa Indonesia will open doors and give opportunities for students to further their studies in Indonesia,” he said. “The Indonesian government provides free scholarships for undergraduate and master students.” He said, the scholarship was fully funded learning Bahasa vital.
