Speaking at the UPNG Imbonggu Students Orientation at Gateway Hotel yesterday, the Secretary for Works and Implementation, David Wereh, alluded that the devaluation of human values eventually resulted in the devaluation of PNG's Kina. Wereh said, "The value of our PNG's Kina is big, yet why does it sinks compared to the amount of bag lodge cases that are continue to fill up and build up. Is it the problem with the devaluation of Kina or devaluation of man's value system. "Mahatma Gandhi, one of the Indian Lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist, who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from the British rule and in turn inspired the movement for civil rights and freedom across the world once said; "Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Science without humanity, Knowledge without character, Politics without principal, Commerce without morality and Worship without sacrifice is a Sin.
"I am very much agree with these facts. A person with a human value can sacrifice for a greater good, not for himself but for the people, his politics will speak volumes about his principals, his wealth will do the work to create a better society for his people and his knowledge will come in line with his character," Wereh added. Wereh went on to say that education is the only key to solve the problem of humanity like; the social issues and economic issues etc...and the idea of us (students) sitting here is to figure out by asking this question, is there a way out because all we wanted to do is to create a world of happiness, a world of prosperity, a world of success etc...this is a kind of world we want to create and live in. This is a time where we are faced with social issues and economic situations, giving us a future that is certainly uncertain. "So the question is, is it to do with money, is it to do with knowledge or human resource. I think the time has gradually changed where man no longer possess Human values in leadership. Everyone of you sitting here, you represent a family, a tribe, a community, district, province and our country as a whole. "And people value you because at one time, you will provide for them, you will protect them, you will carry their burden, you will solve their problems, you will sacrifice everything you have to create a peaceful environment for them to live in. They know you will be someone they can look up to, you are the light of the family, & to the community, people placing their trust and valuing you because they see you as a person with greater human value. "When people are trusting you, valuing you, you must always stand up for them when you are in a position where you can able to provide for them. "What can the knowledge of man do, it is about finding an answer to issues that confronting our future, our children, our resources, and those are the questions we need to ask ourselves." He said, "Looking back to our Province (SHP) in the 60s and 70s, we had leaders who were chosen from the communities especially the provincial leaders like; Joseph Yomba, Duncan Koroba & others...they were villagers with little of modern knowledge in leadership and with a small amount of money to operate the provincial government, but they managed the funds very well, their leadership speaks volume and were beyond expectations. "During those years, with the little funds they received from the national government, they have managed it well and within their limit, they have delivered the basic services like building gravel roads to remot places, sending health workers into villages, services were already coming to the door steps of our villages. "So the idea of civilization in the 21st century was that everything will be okay, people expected greater changes in terms of basic developments, and to date, nothing has eventuated. "Something went wrong somewhere, and that problem needs to be figured out and bring solutions to it." Wereh said that human value must come with knowledge, honesty, transparency and accountability. When there is a drop in Human value, it will definitely affect the value of Economic because elements that build up human values like; knowledge, honesty, transparency, and accountability are lacking. "The value of economic is given by someone who has a human value so human value is very important in managing the affairs of the district, province and country as a whole. "People with greater human values take risks in every decision making, willing to make sacrifices for the greater good of the people," Wereh said. Meantime, Wereh has sponsored the UPNG Imbonggu Students Association with more than K12 thousand to book the Orientation venue at Gateway Hotel. #Albertis_Photography Next : Suspended School Principals In Morobe To Know Fate Soon Comments are closed.
