![]() THIRTY-FIVE students from Central attending the Kokopo Business College in Kokopo, East New Britain, are stranded and seeking help from Central Governor Robert Agarobe to repatriate them. The students want to go home because of protests in Kokopo over the killing of a Western Highlander on the weekend. Provincial administrator Francis Koaba said the parents of the students contacted his office and arrangements were underway to repatriate the students. Koaba said a charter was arranged with Air Niugini to fly the students home.
According to reports, Central students fled the school area and were in Rabaul. Koaba said the students were in contact with his office and students from Central, Motu Koita and National Capital District (NCD) would be catered for in the repatriation exercise. As part of recent amendments to the NCDC Act, the Central government was morally and legally obligated to repatriate students from Motu-Koitabu/NCD as well because Agarobe was a member of the NCDC board. Meanwhile locals of Ulagunan in the Kokopo-Vunamami urban local level government (KVULLG) area have requested for an independent investigation into the deaths of two youths on Monday morning.
