Two primary schools in the Lower Bena LLG of Unggai-Bena, in Eastern Highlands, have been selected by the district education division to become demonstration schools next year.
The two schools, St Don Bosco Namaro and Katagu Primary, will be used by trainee teachers from the newly-established Katagu Lutheran Teachers’ College as a practical field. This was announced on Friday by Unggai-Bena senior inspector for basic education Benson Sinne when addressing thousands of people who gathered to witness the second grade 8 graduation at St Don Bosco Namaro. It is another milestone for the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology as it processed the 2019 Tertiary Selections using the online application just in 15 seconds. Minister of DHERST Hon Pila Niningi LLB, MP Minister pressed the button and activated the National Selections for 2019 New Intakes. All Grade 12 School Leavers can access their NOAS (apply.dherst.gov.pg) and check MyStatus Section to access selection results. PNG’s best academic performing schools were awarded by the Education Department on December 7th. The awards were given out by Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra, to the principals of the respective schools in Port Moresby. The secretary’s awards are given out to recognize the students and schools that perform highly during an academic year. The Department of Higher Education, Research , Science and Technology (DHERST) has closed the 'Grace Period' for students to make changes to the Choices on the online portal. This means, students will no longer access the Choice page to make amendments.

The Education Department has declared the Grade 12 Examination Results online as of yesterday (Friday). This means, parents and Students can view the results online. This gives the Grade 12 Students enough time, atleast a week to make changes to their choices on the DHERST Online School Leaver Form. Notices to Grade 12 Students SOME schools in Western have been forced to close early for the Christmas holidays because of lack of water caused by the dry conditions.
Waetang Kago, the headteacher of Taeme Primary School in East Transfly of South Fly district, said some schools had to close early because of the prolonged dry weather. He said water levels had dropped dramatically, creeks relied on for washing and drinking had dried up. “The level of Kikori and Bituari rivers are dropping every day. We cannot use them to travel by boat,” he said. The PNG Trade Union Congress has expressed grave concerns about the governance process at the University of Papua New Guinea. PNGTUC president John Paska said reports coming out of the university painted a very disturbing picture which gave cause for alarm over administrative anomalies which were apparently being swept under the carpet because people were either too apprehensive to expose them or too comfortable to care. “I am here not only as president of the PNGTUC but also as a concerned sponsor of students at UPNG and other institutions,” Mr Paska said. |
