In a heartfelt testimony to her unwavering dedication, AMPRIN Nahol, hailing from Morobe, Papua New Guinea (PNG) finds her motivation in the students she teaches. As a senior subjects officer specializing in personal development at Malang Technical Secondary School in Morobe, Nahol has been an integral part of the institution for 15 years. Despite being slated for a transfer to another school in accordance with the education system, Nahol's appointment is still pending. In a display of commitment, she has chosen to remain at Malang Secondary, citing the uniqueness of the school, its students, and the dual curriculum it provides. “This school is special because of the students and the dual curriculum that is being offered here for students,” Nahol emphasized. Her deep connection with Malang Secondary began when she first started teaching there in 2009, shortly after graduating from Pacific Adventist University in the National Capital District. Armed with her teaching qualifications and responsibilities as the teacher-in-charge for extra-curricular activities, Nahol extends her influence beyond the classroom. She actively engages in various social activities to enhance the overall development of her students. Over the years, Nahol has witnessed a significant rise in student enrollment, resulting in classes exceeding 100 students per teacher. The resulting overcrowding has placed both teachers and students under considerable stress. Expressing concern, Nahol stressed the urgent need for additional teaching staff to alleviate the burden. “We need more teaching staff as we were overloaded with students," Nahol explained. "We hope that this year we have enough teachers to cater for the numbers. I believe that this year the school administration will be stricter with student registration." Nahol's dedication to her students and her hope for necessary reforms highlight the challenges faced by educators in Papua New Guinea's educational landscape. Her story serves as a testament to the profound impact teachers can have on their students and the importance of addressing resource constraints in the pursuit of quality education.
