PNG EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguro says around 800 department employees are preparing to move into their new offices at Vulupindi House in Waigani, Port Moresby. Uguro said the employees were arranging to bring their files from their former offices at FinCorp Haus which they were evicted from late last year. Uguro and Secretary Dr Uke Kombra have already moved to Vulupindi House. Meanwhile, Kombra said K191.6 million was the first term payment to all the schools – K151.6 million for tuition fees and K40 million for project fees. “The K191.6 million has already been paid and schools should have access to these funds last week and can use these funds on their operations,” Kombra said.
He said the K160 million project fee outstanding from last year had also been paid. Kombra explained that of the Government subsidy of K766.4 million this year, K191.6 million would be paid to school each term. “The calculations are done based on the enrolment data received from the schools. Schools who have not submitted their enrolment data for the last two years will not be paid,” Kombra said. He said provinces which the GTF functions had been decentralised should make sure that schools received the payments as soon as possible.
