Australian Awards - Study in PNG Midwifery Scholarships

​Study in Papua New Guinea on fully funded Scholarships. The Australian Government through its Aid program provides number of scholarships to Papua New Guinea Students. The Scholarships program for Bachelar of Midwifery is now open.

About In-PNG Australian Awards
Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships are prominent awards offered by the Australian Government in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea to support service delivery in Health, Education and Transport. Through study and training in PNG, scholarship recipients develop the knowledge and skills to drive change and to make positive contributions to social and economic development.

The Australian Government is committed to promoting gender equity, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) and encourages women, people with disability and people from rural and remote locations to apply for an In-PNG Scholarship.

This Scholarship is for study in PNG only (not Australia).

Scholarship Program 
This scholarships is for Bachelors (Undergraduate ) degree.
Gender: Both Male and Female are eligible to apply . 
Location of Scholarship: This scholarship program is taken in Papua New Guinea. (eligible students will study in PNG).

​Scholarship benefits

• Course fees and on-campus accommodation
•  A fortnightly contribution to  your living expenses
• A once-off establishment allowance
• Mobilisation and demobilisation travel to and from province of residence to institution
• ‘Reunion’ travel for study programs for more than 12 months
• A health insurance policy for scholarship duration (for the awardee only)
• A medical kit (for health awards)

On-award enrichment programs including support to prepare to enter the workforce on graduation
Membership fees (for one year) for the PNG-Australia Alumni Association.

​How do I begin?
Applicants will need to nominate up to two preferred institutions for study. If offered a scholarship, it will include one of your nominated institutions. You cannot change this institution. You can nominate one institution only, but as you will only be considered for this institution this may reduce your likelihood of receiving a scholarship.


This Scholarship is for study in PNG, not Australia

To be eligible you must:

• You must meet the following requirements to be
  considered for a scholarship:
  • meet the conditions of entry for your preferred
  institution(s)
  • be a citizen of PNG and residing in PNG at the
  time of application
  • not have been convicted of a criminal offence
  • not have been terminated from a previous
  Australia Awards scholarship
  • hold a PNG nursing qualification (Diploma or
  above)
  • have two years' minimum recent employment
  as a practicing nurse
  • be fully registered with the PNG Nursing Council
  • if employed in an NGO facility, have
  endorsement from your employer for leave with
  or without pay
  • if you are a permanent employee of a
  Government of PNG health service, you must
  have employer approval via the training
  committee process in accordance with PNG
  National Public Service General Order Training.

For Study in 2025, the Australian Government will offer scholarships for currently registered nurses to study a Bachelor of Midwifery at the following PNG institutions:

Note: Course duration is 1.5 year (18 months) across three semesters

• This application form is for study in Papua
  New Guinea only (not Australia). You must
  complete this application form in English.
  The scholarship is available for study at:
  • St Mary's School of Nursing (women only)
  • Lutheran School of Nursing
  • University of Goroka
  • Pacific Adventist University
  • University of Papua New Guinea

Supporting Documents 

• One recent passport size ID photo with your
  name and signature on the back of the photo
  (scanned/electronic copy is acceptable)
  • Certified copy of your Nursing qualification
  • Certified copy of your Nursing academic transcript
  • Copy of your passport bio page or NID card or birth
  certificate or photo ID such as driver’s license,
  school ID card, or Staff ID card
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) using template provided
  • Letter of endorsement from your employer (if you
  are permanently employed)
