![]() I sent a message to the University of Papua New Guinea, Science Foundation after finding out the runner up grade twelve in the country, in 2019. She didn’t want to be interviewed at the first place but after explaining to her that she might be an inspiration to other young people, she finally opened up. How often do you study? I would say I study every day. I make sure I complete any given homework or assignments in the early hours of the night. After that, I do light reading over what we have covered in class. What’s your view on Social Media, is it helpful to students or not? It might be helpful in terms of news, however, it is time consuming. I personally stay out of social media until I am free. How would you describe a free time? A free time is a time when there are no approaching tests, exams or no assignments to be completed. Do you have problems, if so, how do you handle them? Problems belong to God, not for me to handle. I enjoy the moment. What will be your advice to female students? Being a girl surely have its challenges. Like you have assessments to complete but you have to do household chores while your brothers are peacefully studying or playing around. That’s where time management is important. All in all, whatever males achieve, we can also achieve if we believe we can. Many students doubt themselves, what’s your word to them? With God, all things are possible. I love this saying, ‘do your best and God will do the rest.’ What’s your advice to students who are facing various problems affecting their studies? Take your problems to God. Knowing he is there will help you push negativities aside and focus on your studies. And this brings us to the end of the interview with Carlena Kelep, the overall runner up grade 12 student in Papua New Guinea. Success leaves clues. I hope our primary and secondary school students can also learn from her. This is helpful and motivating. Students can align their study habits through effective strategies that help succeed. Can you also put up names all those students in the top ten positions, as well as the schools.
