My name is Javin. I am 28 years of age. I am now doing my first year at UPNG. Fortunately I was accepted to study this year when I applied as a non-school leaver last year. That is after several attempts applying to various colleges and universities plus private tertiary institutions since after completing my grade 12 at Gerehu Secondary in 2011. It was my dream to graduate with a degree in any university and I thank Heavenly Father for answering my prayers finally. In 2012 I was very depressed and couldn't accept myself after learning of my results that I did not make it to University of Papua New Guinea which has been the preferred institution of my choice on the SLF despite doing well in all my subjects. However, I found out some descripency on my final exam results and saw my maths (Maths A) was D grade but accepted the outcome. After 3 months of worry, depression, trauma and mental breakdown I accepted my setback and moved on. I got employed as a shop assistant (fruits and veggies) at waterfront foodland at that year. Not long (for 3 months) and I quitted to attend a church convention. In 2013 I was blessed with another job again as a receptionist/admin clerk by church friends at a clinic they run daily. Unfortunately, I had to resign after 12months, in 2014 the same year I was doing my FODE studies to upgrade my Maths. I got diagnosed with pulmonary Tuberculosis that same year and was on medication for 6months, thankfully with the grace of our Heavenly Father, I successfully completed my FODE with an A grade in Maths. Despite all that challenges I was still craving for that degree. My mother being a Peasant worker(Haus girl) and my father paralyzed with stroke due to work pressure in 2012, life was falling apart for me. But I believed in my Heavenly Father and His ultimate Love. I had to take the baton of a breadwinner. With my sibling sister in high school, I know she need the education more than I do. In 2015, I became a security officer, after several attempts of fending for ends meet in the means of selling illicit drugs, but deep down I knew that was not what Heavenly Father wants for me. I even become a part time Bus crew just to see my sister smile. Anyway, from 2015 to 2020 I was a security officer and I learnt alot. I became my family's breadwinner and was proud. I saw my sister completed secondary school and celebrated. The icing was her selection under Hecas to study at Hagen Tech in 2018 which I more than happily supported her. However, she did not completed her studies due to finances but I keep on encouraging her that it is not the end of the world as long as the love of God is endless. After resignation from that security company, I used all my long-term savings to pay off my dream. My dream to be a Lawyer. ##With all that, and throughout that time when I get a chance to buy a daily The National newspaper, I always put an eye out over the paper's viewpoint section to check if Glen Burua wrote to the paper. I'm so blessed that I have read most if not all his helpful article. The phrase that still remains in me is that " Nothing changes if nothing changes".
