![]() By: Andrew Waki I am a graduate of the 2019 batch, my academic ended in 2018, at the PNG University of Technology. The university was accredited to the standard against the international academic platforms and adaptations of learning, it lifted up its academic standards when Dr. Albert Scram was a Vice Chancellor to the PNGUOT. To point the ideology here, University [UoT] itself is best of all in the country [PNG] I can say, but one thing that I was disappointed when I was out of the university ( finished my degree); I and my era took up business related courses were supposed to be placed and arranged to join the internship or what they call it industrial training in private and public sectors by the University. Like in PNG UOT every academic departments ( Communication Department, Lands and Survey , Mining engineering, civil engineering , Mechanical engineering , Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Applied science, Applied Physic, Agriculture, and Forestry) they have that privileges' to do industrial training through the help and initiative taken by their departments but for accept Business studies Department is been dimmed and ignored by the department management and the university management since then, but I don't know now, 2022. Still nothing happened I know. I am really blasts with disappointment, by saying that as every organization needs someone with 3-5 years experience to join their team, how do you expect a graduates with no experience can take that post unless you are engaged to 5months, 6months or 12months internship or industrial training will at least got you a chance to secure that post. Or otherwise you'll have to struggle to secure a job, because today the world is very tough in the employment sector. I really wish that PNGUOT Management and Business Department Heads can at least build them (BS students) internally and externally to be equipped and they can have a probability to get at least a job for their hot shifts and struggles for the past 4 years. Yes, not all can secure a job at the end of their study, merely the privilege's one can secure it at one spot but the rest can face the real hits into the reality of workforces' dilemmas. BUT never give up, keep that spirit of getting a job burning you to the real world, somewhere and when you will get one, nobody dies without a job only a fool can go on with nothing but can die without. I can only hope for the changes in the PNGUOT Business Studies Department, but I don't have the power to change the direction of how it operates. For upcoming Papua New Guineans you can enjoy the taste of "industrial training" after as I am saying, but sad for us who did not have that chance & privilege'. For now, I take this time to congratulate those who graduate this year (17/06/2022) especially PNGUOT_DBS2022 _well done and best wishes on your future.
