THE Yangoru-Saussia District in East Sepik will now have three high schools following a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of the construction of the new West Yangoru High School.
Minister for Trade Commerce and Industry and Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru announced at the ceremony that the construction of all the facilities and amenities of the school would cost an estimated K10 million. West Yangoru High School will now be a boarding school. A tender will be advertised in the newspapers by the Central Supplies and Tenders Board in the coming weeks for the construction of the new high school. The decision by the Yangoru-Saussia Development Authority to build the new West Yangoru High School will ease the spacing problem faced by Kubalia and Yangoru Secondary schools. He said Yangoru-Saussia’s academic performance has dropped significantly in the past few years. “The district produces top students only up to Grade 8 or primary education level in the whole of East Sepik province while Grades 9 to 12 have performed badly.” He said it was the Government’s decision that every child in Papua New Guinea must start schooling at the elementary level and continue to secondary level. Children must start their education at elementary level and continue until Grade 12. Meanwhile, a decision has already been reached to build another high school in the Numbo LLG after the completion of West Yangoru High School.
