THE Voice Inc, a non-government organisation that is targeting youths, will soon establish its office at the University of Technology in Lae.
This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in December last year, paving the way for an office to be set up for the organisation at Unitech in collaboration with the university and other stakeholders. The Voice comprises mainly young vibrant Papua New Guinean elites who target younger generations to develop positive attitudes and values which are needed at the university which had in the past been criticised for issues relating to regionalism and other negative developments. Unitech’s acting regis-trar Veronica Thomas said the univer-sity administration welcomed the Voice Inc and was pleased to form partnerships with such organisations. "We are happy to partner with an organisation that is wholly committed in developing students outside from their academic performances," she said. According to Mrs Thomas, students can benefit a lot from the Voice programs as outlined in its mission statement and principles. She said the organisation’s mission statement clearly states "to empower young people through educational programs to become confident individuals and to create avenues for them to contribute back to their communities." "Our biggest stakeholders at the university are the students and so the management wants involvement of such programs by the Voice Inc to support them," said Mrs Thomas. She said that as the administration, they would like to help build positive values that would be of benefit to the students. It is believed that The Voice Inc would be the first organisation to be established on campus to engage students in programs that provide avenues in which they can fully utilise to their potential in a more positive way towards achieving nation building. The University of Technology administration will host the organisation during the students’ orientation and registration week for studies which is scheduled for next month from February 3-8.
