This is the view of the University of Goroka-one of the highest and fastest growing learning in the country and the pride of Highlands Region that supplies the nation and the Pacific Islands with more than 700 teachers yearly. The University is changing its image yearly with the aim of becoming a model university in the South Pacific region. Already it holds one of the largest library in Papua New Guinea and South Pacific, commonly known as Steven Eka Library, a largest auditorium with the capacity to cater more than 600 heads, a newly renovated and first class dining hall and the state of heart and famous Sitani or most prepared to call 5 Star dormitories. UOG internet accessibilty is twice faster than of the premier university, the UPNG as per as the information obtained from its ICT Department is concerned.
There are many other developments that are currently taking place on the ground such as new mid-wifery building, staff houses, etc.
It will no longer be considered as a teacher training university given the current restructure programme taking place on all its courses and staffing with the facelift of its infrastructures. The University of Goroka will now can compete with other tertiary institutions like UOT, DWU, UPNG, etc in other field of studies.
The name University of Goroka will soon change into a new name called Melanesian University of Papua New Guinea.
