University Students perpetrating crime and damaging Properties will be treated as criminals : Polye10/4/2023
![]() Papua New Guinea Higher Education Minister Don Polye says students across all universities perpetrating crime will be treated as criminals. He was responding to Esa’ala MP Jimmy Maladina, who raised concerns yesterday about students from his electorate being victims of the recent unrest at the University of Natural Resource and Environment, East New Britain campus. Maladina asked what actions were being taken to prevent further unrest and damages to properties. Polye said: “Criminals will face the rule of law and I will not encourage ministers going down to addressing issues that can be addressed administratively at universities.
“We have positioned institutions to address their own issues and advised all universities that there are processes in place as part of governance and leadership, and students should not take the law into their own hands. “If a student body wants to address an issue, the first place to go to is the student service, if not addressed, take it to the vice chancellor, then to the chancellor or council boards and if not satisfied, reach out to the higher education secretary and minister who will then advise the prime minister and cabinet if they cannot address the issue themselves.” The National / PNG Education News Also read Comments are closed.
