The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), like all other tertiary and education institutions nationwide, has activated its shut down period today for all students on and off campus as measures are stepped up to fight any spread of COVID 19. The University Council met yesterday and in compliance with the government’s decision for a 14 day suspension of schools, called for a lockdown of the campus starting today until further notice from the authorities. ‘’The University of Papua New Guinea will be on lock down for 14 day as per the Prime Minister directives this week. As well as that, graduations and any other major public gatherings will be on halt until further directives from Higher Education”, said the UPNG Public Relations and Marketing Director Jim Robins. ‘’All students in NCD are asked to stay home till further notice from the school’’. He added that one of the most important things they are putting out now to the students, staff and the community is that social distancing is not being anti-social, it’s being responsible to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
