THE University of Goroka has signed an agreement with the administration in Chimbu to help the provice provide higher education for teachers.
University Chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb and Vice-Chancellor Prof Musawe Sinebare signed the agreement with Chimbu administrator Joe Kunda. Sukwianomb said UOG opened up satellite campuses in provinces to take university services under the ‘Gown to Town’ concept and Chimbu would be the latest addition to that list. “We want to work in partnership with Chimbu government to provide quality learning for the teachers in both the teachers’ college and those already teaching in the field,” he said. Sukwianomb and Sinebare had a preliminary discussions with Kunda in Kundiawa on Monday. He said UOG had reached out to other provinces like West New Britain, Western Highlands, and Madang, and Chimbu was the latest one to be taken on board. Sinebare said UOG also had a campus in Honiara, Solomon Islands, and is further expanding. Sinebare said most teachers did not attend proper training but had licence to teach. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill strongly emphasised on quality education when he attended the 31st synod of Evangelical Lutheran Church PNG in Chimbu this week. Kunda said it would be a long process for provinces to build universities and the approach taken by UOG was a way forward to bring university education to the provinces. The National
