PNG EDUCATION Secretary Dr Uke Kombra says the Government tuition fee subsidy (GTFS) calculations are done based on the enrolment data that is received from the schools. He said schools that did not submitt their enrolment data for 2019, 2020 and 2021 would have payment issues. Kombra, in a statement, said provinces that were poor in submitting 2021 enrolment data were Manus, New Ireland, Gulf, Madang, Eastern Highlands apart from Morobe, East Sepik and West New Britain. He also announced that an outstanding of K211 million in GTFS funding was deposited into the school’s bank accounts yesterday. Kombra said schools should access these funds this week and start using these funds to assist with their operations and also pay off credit from last year. He said provinces in which the GTFS functions had been decentralised were urged to make sure that schools receive their payments as soon as the funds hit the provincial trust accounts.
Kombra reminded the schools principals of every student’s right to an education and warned that no student was to be refused enrolment for any fees. Meanwhile, a secondary school in the National Capital District says it will not accept any transferring students, except for grade 9s, so it is easy to deal with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and overcrowding in classrooms. Badihagwa Secondary School deputy principal for curriculum Ikupu Ovia told The National: “For grade nine spaces, we’re only considering the students within our zone like St Michael’s, Hagara, Tatana and Baruni if there are opportunities for spaces.” He said the level 10 school enrolled more than 2,000 students and the number of students in a class would be 55 to 70 students this year. Ovia said, for projects fees, they would have meetings with parents to agree on what projects to be undertaken before deciding on the projects each student would pay. He said the minimum they charged per student was K220 every year. The National / PNG Education News Next : Schools Overcharging Project Fees Will Be Investigated And Penalised Comments are closed.
