SOME teachers in PNG are unable to spend Christmas in their home districts because the Government is yet to pay their leave fare and entitlements, according to Deputy Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa. Tomuriesa said some teachers had not seen their families for between five and 10 years because of the leave fare problem (which crops up at the end of each year). “(They) leave their homes and families to teach children in other provinces. They must not be overlooked,” he said. “It is only right that they get leave fares and entitlements to go back home and see their families during the festive season.”
Tomuriesa said some teachers working in other districts had been unable to go home during the Christmas holidays. “Sometimes they do, but (the money) comes in very late and close to when schools re-open. So they don’t go home.” He said the Government must prioritise the payment of leave fares. “(They) are teaching the next generation of leaders (and) helping to build the country’s human resource,” he said. “The Government must really look into placing systems that will ensure teachers get their leave fares and entitlements on time so that they too can go home and see their families during the festive season.” The National / PNG Education News Also read : Non School Leavers Acceptance List For PNG Teachers Colleges 2023 Comments are closed.
