TEACHERS around the country will not strike or protest like the nurses’ union, an official says. Papua New Guinea Teachers Association general secretary David Numbaming said while teachers were considered among the frontline workers during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, they would not be involved in union action as the school year was almost over and students needed to complete their activities, including tests, examinations and assessments. Numbaming said the Government and the Education Department were aware of the situation the teachers were going through.
He said if the authorities wanted to compensate teachers, it would be up to them to decide. He said some provinces had lost several teachers to Covid-19. Statement / PNG Education News Next : A Lifetime Of Education Service In PNG Recognised With Queen’s Honours Comments are closed.
