THE drop in education standards across Papua New Guinea falls back on discipline enforced at teachers colleges, an official says. Madang Teachers College board chairman Joe Agavi said setting standards for students started with teachers and colleges played a role in what kind of graduates they produced. He said at MTC the focus was on improving facilities and amenities to balance out curriculum work and extra-curricular activities. “Primary school teachers are actually the foundation of all training and if we want a better future for tomorrow, it starts here at Madang Teachers College,” Agavi said.
“While we enforce a zero tolerance policy on disciplinary issues for both lecturers and students here at the college, we must also try to improve facilities in the area of curricular activities that will keep students busy like upgrading of basketball and netball courts, information technology facilities and an e-library,” he said. “Basically students are getting into disciplinary issues because they are not kept busy.” The National / PNG Education News Next : PNG Education Minister Aims To Deliver Quality Education By 2027 Comments are closed.
