TEACHER appointments in the country are not made by any other office except the provincial education board (PEB), according to the Teaching Service Commission. Commissioner Samson Wangihomie said that officers could submit applications for the PEB to consider. “The authority is the PEBs and not anybody else,” he said. “But there are avenues where teachers can appeal. “If a level three teacher is appointed a head teacher of a level eight school and there is a level seven officer who is overlooked, then the level seven officer has the right to appeal to the commission to qualify and justify that he is the most suitable person.”
Wangihomie said if teachers were removed from their tenure position and was appointed elsewhere, they could appeal to the commission. “Acting appointments are for one year,” he said. For the case in East Sepik where certain teachers had been missing out on appointments, Wangihomie said if the East Sepik education board had moved a teacher to another school, and the school that they were at did not have tenure to it, the advise was to move to another school and teach. “But if they have a tenure and have a strong case, they should appeal to the commission,” he said. “If they do not want to appeal and they do not want to take up their teaching position, the commission advises that they take leave without pay for the year.” The National / PNG Education News Next : Teaching Positions Limited: Beli Comments are closed.
