THE Sydney-based Toyota Tsusho South Pacific Holdings (TTSPH) Group conducted an advanced skills contest at the Badili Ela Motors Training Centre in Port Moresby last Friday.
The competition was the first to be held in Papua New Guinea and was purposely to challenge the expertise of Toyota technicians, service and parts advisers across the South Pacific. The contest is held yearly throughout South Pacific. It consists of the technician, service adviser and parts adviser categories. The contestants came from Fiji, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands and from each region of PNG. TTSPH learning and development manager Jon Heironymus said the contest was designed basically to help the technicians, service advisers and parts advisers in the South Pacific to be well qualified to attend to their customers. “We are encouraging learning and self-development of our staff in conjunction with our company structure,” he said. “We want to train the best technicians and advisers who will meet the exact needs of the customers.” Badili Ela Motors learning and development manager Ben Johnson said the competition was a platform in which all disciplines involved in the Toyota products and services were displayed. “In fact, this is a showcase in which our staff show that they know what they do, and the winners come out highly qualified,” he said. The winner from the technician category will be rewarded with a trip to Japan and will attend the Toyota Assembly of Champions while the service and parts adviser winners will receive a cash prize in recognition for their expertise.
