![]() Police in Manus province have reported that a 16-year-old girl was packed raped by three young men while returning home after completing her last grade 8 National Examination paper on Thursday 5th November at Ward 3 Lorengau town. Manus Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Chief Inspector David Yapu said the victim was following a short cut track to go to her house between 2pm and 3pm when she was confronted by the drunken suspects. The suspects forced her to drink the home-brew, but she refused, and they held her and forcefully had turns in raping her. The victim was rescued by her aunty and reported the matter to Police and was taken to Lorengau Hospital for medical examination. PPC Yapu said when the news reached the relatives of the victim, they retaliated at night at about 10pm and burnt down one of the suspect’s house including his father’s house at Wosera Settlement.
The father of one of the suspects said he lost about K5,000 in cash in the fire. The total cost of properties burnt in the fire is yet to be assessed by the complainants and provided to Police for their Investigation, said Yapu. The three suspects have been arrested and now in Police custody for further CID Investigation. Yapu said the suspects responsible for burning the house have been identified and will also be dealt with by the Police as no one is above the Rule of the Law. He appealed to both parties to refrain from causing further trouble and remain calm and allow Police to deal with both cases.
